Skin Care Products and Men

For a long time now the world of skin care has belonged to women. After all, most of the skin care products on the market today are made for women and most of the advertising is aimed at them as well. So it’s not surprising. Men have been second-class citizens.

But as the old Bob Dylan song goes “the times they are a changin" and skin care products for men are starting to catch up to the women’s side of the shelf.

That’s not just because advertisers have suddenly discovered the male market for skin products. It’s because men have discovered that they can be just as manly with well toned, healthy, even beautiful skin. And they know that the right skin care products can help them achieve it. So men are taking a little bit better care of their face and bodies than they have in the past.

So what are men buying? Well, they’re buying cleansers and moisturizers; they’re buying therapeutic shaving gels and sun screens. They’re buying over-the-counter products and they’re buying natural and organic products (Aveeno skin products are a particular organic favorite). In short, they’re buying all the same products women have been buying for years. And they’re loving it too.

Men are also discovering how to take better care of their skin by taking better care of themselves.

For instance, more and more men realize that a good night’s sleep helps their skin to rid itself of the toxins that build up over the course of a day. Fewer toxins mean healthier looking and even younger looking skin. Beauty sleep isn’t just for women anymore.

Men are also being more careful about too much sunshine. They realize that sunburns only harm the skin and age it prematurely. So they’re applying more sun screens and sun blocks to protect themselves.

It used to be that men didn’t worry about taking care of their skin. They couldn’t be bothered to take the time to learn a few simple techniques that could make a long-term difference in how they looked and how they felt. But now that’s changed. More and more men are taking better care of themselves and their skin. Move over ladies, you’ve got company.
